Dear Colleagues and Friends,
After 5 years as Executive Director of the Campus District, and 43 years working in Cleveland’s unique and wonderful neighborhoods, I will be retiring to be an active grandma for my two grandbabies who are about to be born. Our son Peter and his wife Virginia are due in October and our daughter Katie and her husband Joseph are due in January. I will be leaving a job and organization that I absolutely love in February 2018 to retire to a new unpaid job that is calling me – helping my kids with childcare for their new babies. Life is short. The untimely passing of my colleagues and friends Daryl Rush, Nate Zaremba and Ray Pianka earlier this year brought that home to me so dearly and it resonates with me almost daily.
Working at the Campus District is a privilege, nothing less. I have worked with the best leaders of institutions, organizations and businesses on our Board of Directors who give of themselves to make our unique neighborhood of downtown Cleveland thrive. They have changed the face of the Campus District through their passion, leadership and hard work on their own initiatives and on top of that they work at making a transformational difference in the Campus District community. They have helped me figure out solutions to our challenges and have been beyond supportive every time they are called upon. I will miss this group of people tremendously.
I have been inspired by our residents, artists, business and property owners, students, faculty, and social service agency staff in the Campus District that I have had the honor to work with on projects and issues over the past 5 years. I am forever grateful for their trust, commitment to our community, and their support. Our donors and funders have enabled our collective visions to come to life and we would not be where we are today without them. To my Campus District staff, my neighboring colleagues at Midtown Cleveland, Downtown Cleveland Alliance (DCA), St. Clair Superior Development Corporation and Burten Bell Carr Community Development Corporation – they are the best and it has been great fun to work with and learn from them.
To be clear, I am still here through February. The board will start its search process now for the next executive director and our plan is to have a good transition process with a few weeks of overlap in February. Look for a posting in the next day or so and help us find the right person. In the mean time I will work my tail off to get us to a great place for the hand off to a new director. Our Superior Arts Business Improvement District will be established by then, our strategic alliance with DCA will be underway and key projects will be moving forward.
I hope as many of you as possible will join me at our 2017 Campus District Annual Meeting on November 28th. It will be a great chance for me to thank all of you personally for what you have done for the Campus District, Cleveland and me personally.
With fond and high regards,
